She found Yoga when she needed it most, and it changed everything.

The story of Anoushka : ShantiYoga

“How do I become a good Yoga Teacher?”
is a question we often get.

Anoushka’s yoga journey began in 2017 as a personal practice during a difficult time. After discovering her passion for sharing yoga while traveling, she completed her first teacher training in Peru. She later continued her education with Arhanta, where she deepened her knowledge of Hatha yoga, alignment, and teaching methodology. She further expanded her expertise through additional training in pranayama.

In 2022, Anoushka opened a small yoga studio in her French village. Through consistency and dedication, her classes gradually grew into a thriving business, allowing her to support herself through teaching by early 2023.

Today, Anoushka runs a thriving yoga space built not on big plans, but on quiet consistency. Her journey shows that you don’t need to feel ready to begin; you need to keep showing up.

We asked Anoushka her story, and she shared it in detail:

“My name is Anoushka, I’m a yoga teacher located in a small village in the middle of France (near Clermont Ferrand).

Yoga came into my life after a travel in India in 2017, 3 months later my father passed away.
The practice of yoga was precious help during this time and for some reason it never left me.
At first, I practiced alone every day with a book called “encyclopedy of yoga from andre van Lysebeth” .
At this point, I never entered a yoga class or practiced with a teacher, and didn’t know anything about yoga except what what written in this book.
In 2019, I went for a long travel, that started in Spain.
I started teaching yoga in a hostel as a volunteer for free, and my classes started by “please don’t trust anything I say, I’m not a yoga teacher, I just like yoga”.

There I met few yoga teachers that told me to pass the diploma for teaching, that my classes were great.

After Spain, my travel continued in south America, and in Peru I did a 200h of vinyasa.
I went to the 200 TTC without having done a yoga class, and without knowing they were different style of yoga (and what I practiced was hatha).
I remember my first yoga class in the yoga Ashram in PerĂş that was vinyasa and was…hard!
I thought this is not what I thought yoga was, and wanted to leave…but I stayed and it was a very good training and very interesting for someone like me that didn’t knew anything about yoga.
After that I taught few classes now and then of vinyasa and continued my solo practice and learned more about yoga, the philosophy, the different approach…
Covid came and I was forced to go back home…and that was a blessing.
I went back to the house where I grew up, my father house, did a lot of construction work myself and started to be happy there.
After the TTC in PerĂş, I started to look into other schools, and I followed Arhanta in the social media, read the articles from the blogs and contacted them.
I decided to do a 2nd teacher training 200h, “specialized” on hatha yoga…and I fell in love with the Sivananda practice taught in Arhanta.
I learned a lot about the philosophy, and how to teach a class.
The fact that we repeated the corrections many time on the others students helped me to get it, to see different body and improve my practice.
After the training, I went back to my house, located in the middle of France in a small village of 400 people.. and without thinking to much, thinking that it will not work really, and without taking any risks because it was in my house I opened a yoga studio called “Shanti yoga vic le comte” in march 2022.
I started with 3 classes Ă  week (1 hatha, 1 vinyasa, 1 yoga nidra).
I had 1,2 or 3 students and sometimes 0. But I stayed open, I was there, smiling even if I had no one… and it worked!
In September 2022, I started to have more people, and did more classes. From January 2023 I could live from the studio (I could pay my bills).
People started coming because they heard of me from an other student. My studio became more popular.
In 2023, I did the pranayama teacher training online of Arhanta because I wanted to teach pranayama because of it affects on the nervous system, and by practicing it my capacity respiratory improved and helped me to be more connected to the present moment.
From September 2023 I had a new class of pranayama, and to my great surprise, it worked.
I had even more students in 2023.
In 2024, I decided to do an advanced teacher training with Arhanta, because my students that started with me in 2022 evolved and improved and me too, my teaching became more accurate, I could see my students and focus on them, and I wanted to improved my teaching, and learn more about anatomy and how to teach advances poses.
I love the training, and I helped me in my teaching.
In September 2024 I started to have 1 class of advanced vinyasa and 1 class of advanced hatha.
And could help my students to improve their practice. I did this training for that, no for me, but for my students to be able to help them to reach their goal.
In September 2025/year 2025-2026: I have now 115 regular students, income have 11 classes Ă  week, I have 1 pranayama class, 1 avance hatha, 1 advanced vinyasa and also regular classes of hatha, vinyasa, a class the I call slow (that is a form of hatha flow more accessible that the hatha sivananda), a yoga nidra class/sound healing, and a pregnant yoga class.
But what a really have :
– an amazing communauty of students that follow me, trust me, students that i see evolving, smiling.
– a small studio where i can put only 10 mats, with my cat that walks around, that has a great atmosphere and the people like to come in.
– I’m also confident in my teaching, I see my students progress, I see laughter, I see happiness and joy in the studio.
I’m very happy and lucky to do a job that I love, in a place that I love and I take nothing for granted and continue to grow and evolve.
For this reason I’ve decided to close the yoga studio, and will reopen in September 2027.
I feel the need to take a break in my teaching, to be able to improve my own practice, to take a time to grow and to come back with new ideas.

Life is always changing, and it’s good and healthy (I think) to be able to change and adapt.”
