She Came to Deepen Her Practice. She Found the Confidence to Teach.

The story of Kay

“I’m not sure if I want to teach, is this for me?” is a question we often get.

Some people join a yoga teacher training with the dream of becoming yoga teachers. Others simply want to deepen their understanding of yoga beyond the poses, hoping to enrich their own practice and learn from experienced teachers.

Meet our student, Rattanaporn “Kay” Ruygrok-Niyomtham, whose journey with Arhanta began with that very intention. After practicing yoga for many years, Kay felt there was still so much more to discover. She wanted to understand the philosophy behind yoga, refine her practice, and build a stronger foundation, not because she planned to teach, but because she wanted to experience yoga more deeply for herself.

That search for deeper knowledge led her to Arhanta’s 200-Hour Yoga Teacher Training. Through its traditional approach, structured curriculum, and hands-on teaching methodology, Kay gained far more than she had expected. She developed a deeper appreciation for yoga, built lasting friendships with fellow students, and discovered the confidence to step in front of a class when an unexpected opportunity came her way.

Today, at 63, Kay teaches Hatha, Vinyasa, Yin, and Body Balance classes, combines yoga with Qigong, organizes annual yoga retreats with fellow Arhanta alumni, and continues to help students improve both their physical and mental well-being. Looking back, what began as a personal learning journey became a meaningful new chapter; one shaped by the knowledge, confidence, and supportive community she found at Arhanta.

Her story is a reminder that yoga teacher training isn’t only for those who already know they want to teach. Sometimes, it starts with a simple desire to learn, and along the way, it opens doors you never expected.

How can you find her?
Kay said:
“unfortunately i don’t have website or use FB or IG, or really any social media platform. Most of my clients are from the other classes students i teach and via introducing”

Showing some teachers simply find their students by being present at locations.
They join studios, participate in events, or are temporary replacements and backup.

You can find her teaching in Yoga studios she finds along her path, as she accompanies her husband (a diplomat) to many different countries.
Additionally, occasionally Kay returns to the Arhanta Yoga Ashram in The Netherlands as an assisting teacher,
to help our students and teachers with the same Teacher Training programs she had followed as a student before.
